Divine Apathy follows East Side Ed, an outreach worker in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, as he ventures to an encampment for the unhoused to cook Christmas poutine for its residents. Through a blend of archival footage and the filmmaker’s still photography, the film observes a community often unseen, capturing moments of humour, resilience, and survival alongside the quiet presence of realities of life shaped by addiction. As Ed reflects on his own struggles, a deeper connection is revealed between him and the people he serves.
